The University of Louisville swimming and diving teams finished fourth at the Miami Invitational and set 13 school records and swam more than 30 lifetime bests.
Host Miami won the women's meet and Kenyon College won the men's meet in the three day event.
"This was a great rehearsal for the Conference Championship meet. We got to see our team perform together for six very tough sessions," said second year coach Arthur Albiero. "It was a great exclamation point for the first semester of our schedule and we are looking forward to an even better second semester."
Freshman Amanda Taylor set six school records herself. She won the 200 and 400-IM each with a school record. She swam 2:05.56 in the 200-IM and 4:28.54 in the 400-IM. Her 50-back in the first leg of the 200-Medley Relay was a school record of 27.90. She swam 1:55.48 in the 500-free, 10:19.61 in the 1000-free and 17:06.14 in the 1650-free, all school marks. The women set a school mark for two relays as well. Leigh Smith, Amanda Taylor, Kate Wilson and Angie Nicolletta set a mark of 3:31.94 in the 400-free relay. Smith, Nicolletta, Anne Isaacs and Taylor combined to set a new mark in the 800-free relay of 7:43.91.
The men had five new records with transfer Matt Maley notching the first one in the 100-free with a time of 45.74. Adam Madarassy set two records with a 4:33.63 in the 500-free and a 1:47.58 in the 200-fly. His time in the 200-fly achieved NCAA B consideration standard. Freshman Charlton Lawson set a school mark of 16:01.76 in the 1650 for the Cardinals.
"To have more than 30 lifetime bests bodes well for the season ahead. It is a great confidence builder especially for the younger swimmers. But we can't rest here. Come Tuesday it is back in the pool like it is a whole new season," said Albiero.
