LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
University of Louisville student-athletes, cheerleaders and dance team members will move through the stands at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium during the Cardinals' Sept. 20 football game against UTEP to collect money for the Marques Maybin Medical Fund.
The Cardinals' No. 12 all-time scorer, Maybin was paralyzed from the waist down in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 5 and did not have medical insurance. The collection will begin midway through the second quarter of the game. Donation buckets will also be placed at concession stands.
"I was approached by several of our student-athletes shortly after the accident," said U of L Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "They wanted to get involved to help one of their own in our Cardinal Athletics family. So many people have already been so generous, and this provides another opportunity to help Marques."
Maybin led the Cardinals in scoring his final two years at U of L, including averaging 17.7 points as a senior during the 2000-01 season. He completed his career with 1,624 career points while playing at U of L from 1997-2001, ranking 12th all-time at Louisville and eighth in Conference USA history. His career 156 three-point goals is fourth all-time for the Cardinals and he is sixth in career dunks with 95.
Donations may also be sent to: Marques Maybin Medical Fund, c/o Republic Bank, 661 South Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, KY 40222.
