U of L Football Parking Tips - 2004

The least congested approach to the area around Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is to come east on Central Avenue, approaching from Churchill Downs and turning either north or south on Floyd Street toward your assigned parking lot. The quickest way to leave the stadium is to depart the vicinity going west on Central Avenue and proceed to I-264 (Watterson Expressway) in order to avoid the congestion on Crittenden Drive. After the game officers will direct all Floyd Street traffic in the west southbound lane to turn west on Central Avenue.. Floyd Street must remain "two way" at all times to allow access and egress for businesses, residents, and emergency vehicles.
Change in Lot Designations
The Athletic Department has eliminated the "Yellow Lot" designation for the 2004 football season and did not distribute Yellow Lot season parking passes. Construction projects have claimed much of the original Yellow parking along Floyd Street. The remaining Yellow Lots are designated as Green Lots. All Green Pass holders are eligible to park in these lots. Season ticket holders who purchased prepaid parking in the Red and Green Lots should refer to the map provided with your pass. All lots open five hours before kickoff (e.g., 10:30 a.m. for games with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff).
Once fans are in the appropriate lot, we ask patrons to be courteous and adhere to using one parking place per pass. Tents or other structures should not take up additional parking places. RV's will only be allowed in the Green Lots with a Green RV lot pass available for purchase from the ticket office for eligible customers. Throwing objects such as footballs or other items in the stadium lot is dangerous and prohibited. All port-a-lets and trash dumpsters in the Green Lot are located near light poles in the center of the lot for easy location.
Recommended Route to Lots:
1. I 65 south to Arthur Street Exit, right on Cardinal Blvd, turn left on Floyd Street.
2. East on Central Avenue from Churchill Downs, turn left on Floyd Street.
1. Watterson West (I264) to Exit 11, Crittenden Drive to Park Blvd. Left on Park Blvd to Floyd Street. Green Parking Lots are on the left.
2. East on Central Avenue from Churchill Downs, right on Floyd Street.
Patrons should avoid the Floyd Street / Central Avenue intersection and the Central Avenue / Crittenden Drive intersection one hour before the game when congestion is heaviest and choose alternate routes into the stadium area.
Additional Parking Information
All lots adjacent to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium are prepaid reserved parking for U of L season ticket holders.
On most game days, one of the best options is to park at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.. To avoid traffic to the prepaid lots, those parking at the KFEC should access Gate 1 of the fairgrounds off the Watterson Expressway (I-264). Follow Ring Road (Champion's Way) to the right and park in the lots north of old Cardinal Stadium, then walk across Crittenden Drive at the traffic light and down Central Avenue to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Please avoid jaywalking across Crittenden Drive. Parking at the KFEC is $4.
There is also substantial surface parking west of the stadium across the railroad tracks between Churchill Downs and PJCS.. All handicapped parking at the stadium is pre-sold. Drive up handicapped parking is available on the first floor of U of L's Floyd Street parking garage, with a shuttle available to the stadium. Individuals may drop off and pick up handicapped patrons in the bus lane of the stadium, however, it is not recommended.
Public transportation drops off in the bus lane adjacent to Floyd Street. Post event traffic must follow the directions of security personnel to assure two exit lanes.
CardMarch
U of L will continue the new tradition at home games this season with the CardMarch, a creation of head coach Bobby Petrino. The team will be dropped off on the south side of the Denny Crum Overpass on Central Avenue two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff (12:45 p.m. for a 3 p.m. kickoff). With the assistance of the U of L marching band and cheerleaders, the team will walk from the Green Lot and into Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Fans are invited to arrive early and create an entrance way for the players as they head into the stadium.
