Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team worked out in full pads for the first time this season Monday afternoon on the Cardinal practice fields.
"I thought it was a good first day in pads," said head coach Bobby Petrino. "The intensity was high, and I liked the way the players went after each other in some full contact drills. I was very pleased."
The Cardinals worked out for almost three hours in preparation for the August 31 opener at Kentucky. The squad will hit the field Tuesday to begin its first set of two-day practices at 9:00 a.m. The second practice will begin at 4:00 p.m.
"We had another good day of learning," said Petrino. "I like the effort the guys are giving us, and I look forward to watchinh how they respond to their first two-a-day-practice."
In another note, the Louisville-Syracuse contest on September 13 in the Carrier Dome is set for 1:30 p.m.
