Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"I want to congratulate East Carolina. They played a hell of a ball game and so did we. We have a lot of work to do. We have to start over again but we have to become a different zone team, and man-to-man team. We have to reinvent ourselves and our players are willing to do it. I'm really pleased with our victory.
(on sitting Marvin Stone) "The University has to make a decision. If I made the decision, I would have played him. I know why they did it. I always base it on right or wrong. They are making a prudent decision. Tom (Jurich) is probably smart. I don't know (if he's gone for the season). I know as much as you do."
(on who made the decision to sit Marvin Stone) "That I don't know. I was told not to play him. I am sure the President makes the ultimate decision....Mick called me and told me that he wasn't going to play."
"Otis (George) played an outstanding game. Kendall (Dartez) got tired but in his defense, he's not conditioned to play 36 minutes. We needed some else to rebound and I'm proud of his effort."
(on if the win helped the team) "It's not so much what the win did for us but what the loss would have done for us. We had to do something about the adversity. There's nothing embarrassing about losing to St. Louis and at Cincinnati. And the losses to Memphis and Marquette weren't embarrasing either. This loss would have effected the psyche of the team."
East Carolina Head Coach Bill Herrion
"I am proud of the way our kids played. This Wednesday we lost a tough game to Cincinnati by one point. What a tough road trip we've been on. The spurt (by Louisville) early in the second half really hurt. The 23 turnovers hurt us and we are team that prides ourselves on not turning the ball over. We didn't handle the press very well."
"We could have folded in this game after they came out with a 17-1 run in the second half. If you told me we would shoot 49 percent and score 76 points, I thought we would have had a shot to win the game."
(on how they prepared against a different Louisville team) "You know what you are going to get. We knew Ellis wasn't going to play but we didn't find out about (Marvin) Stone until we got to the arena. When we beat them last year, we beat their press. This time we didn't handle it and the first four minutes of the second half killed us."
