LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville forward Ellis Myles ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the Cardinals' 2002-03 season.
Myles underwent surgery at Thursday at Jewish Hospital to repair the damage. "We're happywith the way the surgery went," said Dr. John Ellis, who performed the operation. "We were able to repair the tendon with no complications. Now Ellis has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him." It will be about six months before Myles can return to full activity.
Myles suffered the injury with 1:15 remaining in the Cards' 78-73 loss to Marquette on Thursday. He had produced 12 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game, which marked the seventh time this season he grabbed 11 or more rebounds.
A 6-7 junior from Compton, Ca., Myles has started all 24 games for the No. 11 Cardinals (19-5), averaging 7.8 points and a team-leading 7.9 rebounds (sixth in Conference USA). The team co-captain has produced 22 career double-digit rebounding efforts.
