LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Hannah Sharp, a right-handed outside hitter from Victor, New York has signed a national letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at the University of Louisville.
Sharp led Victor High School to the 2003 Class B, New York State Championship and earned New York State All-State first team honors in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
"She is a great kid and we are very excited she decided to come here," said Leonid Yelin. "She is the kind of kid for whom hard work comes naturally and she is used to playing many roles on her team. She will fill that need for us too."
The 5-10 New Yorker was MVP of the Section V, Class B in 2001, 2002 and 2003. She won a gold medal in the Western New York Empire State Team in 2001, 2002, 2003. The versatile athlete plays outside hitter, rightside hitter and libero and won first team all-league honors in 2000 and 2001. Sharp also picked up All-Tournament honors at the Fredonia Spikefest (2001, 2002), the North Tonawanda Tournament (2002) and was the MVP of the Aquinas Tournament in 2001 and 2002.
"She has great fundamental skills and that saves both her and me a lot of time," said Yelin. "She can jump right into learning our system and our offense without having to take time to correct any skills problems."
Sharp is listed in the Who's Who of Sports 2002 and was a member of the student council, Key Club, Youth-to-Youth and chorus. A member of the 2002 Finger Lakes Sportsmanship Conference, she is also a member of the varsity basketball team.
She played for the Volley FX club team for Rob and Candi Werkmeister, both former volleyball letterwinners for SUNY-Buffalo.
While at U of L, she plans to study business.
