
Football Heads To Florida To Face USF

The University of Louisville football team opens its Conference USA season under first-year head coach Bobby Petrino when the Cardinals (4-0) visit South Florida (2-1) on Saturday, October 4, in a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Raymond James Stadium.
The game will be televised on WFTE-Great 58 with Don Russell and Doug James calling all the action. The game can also be heard on 840-AM in Louisville. Paul Rogers (play-by-play), Craig Swabek (color) and Greg Brohm (sidelines) call the action. Internet broadcasts are available at www.UofLsports.com.
The Cardinals are looking for its first 5-0 start since the 1993 campaign, but more importantly, are hoping to get a jump on the C-USA race. The Cardinals next seven games will all be conference games.
"The conference opener is always big," said head coach Bobby Petrino. "It's going to be a lot of fun to go down there and play a good South Florida team. They're very athletic and fast, and we'll have to play a sound game to beat them."
The game will be a homecoming of sorts for many of the Cardinal players, as 28 players on the 2003 roster hail from the Sunshine State.
J.R. Russell, the Cardinals' leading receiver with 17 catches for 315 yards, hails from the Tampa area and is excited about going home.
"I'll have a lot of friends and family at the game," said Russell. "It will be good to see a lot of them, but we're going down there to play a good football team."
The Cardinals are 4-0 after a 21-12 victory over Temple last Saturday. Junior quarterback Stefan LeFors tossed two touchdown passes before leaving with an injury, while freshman Justin Rascati threw for another.
USF is 2-1, 1-0 C-USA after a 28-0 shutout over Army,d are hosting its first-ever Conference USA contest. In only their seventh year in existence, the Bulls own a 20-game home winning streak - the second longest in the country.
The Cardinals return home next week to host Army in a 3:05 p.m. kickoff at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
