Louisville, Ky. - Playing its second game in a span of six days, the University of Louisville football team (5-1, 1-1 C-USA) remains home to face Tulane (3-3, 1-2 C-USA) Friday night in a nationally-televised ESPN contest at 8:06 p.m.
The Cardinals will be looking to run its record to 4-0 at home this season after a 34-10 victory over Army last Saturday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Sean McDononough (play-by-play), Mike Golic (color), Rod Gilmore (color) and Rob Stone (sidelines) will call the action. Paul Rogers (play-by-play), Craig Swabek (color) and Greg Brohm (sidelines) will broadcast on WHAS-840 AM Internet broadcasts are available at www.UofLsports.com.
Tulane is a dangerous team because of their offensive weapons. Led by quarterback J.P. Losman, Tulane leads C-USA in scoring at 33.8 points per game, and Losman, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior, has 19 touchdown passes, trailing only Texas Tech's B.J. Symens (27) and Oklahoma's Jason White (20).
"They are a very good offensive football team, very good," UofL coach Bobby Petrino said. "They've got real good receivers, and Losman is an NFL-caliber quarterback - he can make all the throws and is very athletic. And they have a very good offensive package. They give you a lot of different looks, probably more than we've seen since the Syracuse game."
Louisville is coming off a 34-10 win over Army last Saturday at PJCS. Junior Stefan LeFors threw for a career-best 406 yards and sophomore Eric Shelton ran for three touchdowns as the Cards returned to their winning ways.
LeFors completed 19-of-28 passes to 10 different receivers as the Cardinal offense racked up 619 yards of total offense - the fourth most in school history. Louisville led Army only 17-10 at halftime, but pulled away with a 17-point third quarter.
Shelton, who carried 14 times for 70 yards, scored twice in the quarter, on runs of 3 and 4 yards. Army, shut out in its previous two games, broke its scoring drought when Anthony Zurisko kicked a 22-yard field goal with 3:10 left in the first quarter. Shelton scored on a 19-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Army again tied the game when Brian Hill returned his first career interception 33 yards for a touchdown. Michael Bush's 32-yard touchdown run gave the Cardinals a 17-10 lead midway through the second quarter.
"We'll be ready to go," said head coach Bobby Petrino. "This is a big game for us and it's being televised nationally on ESPN, which is always something special. We're looking forward to playing a good football team."
