Tampa, Fla. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team was shut out by Conference USA rival South Florida 7-0 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
USF took four the the six singles matches in straigth sets. The Cardinals lost the doubles point when South Florida won No. 1 and 2 doubles. First doubles partners Melisa San Martin and Kelly Kiehna fell 8-3 to Natalie Schwartz and Genevieve Houle. Jennifer Sinclair teamed with Claudia Nieto to beat Julie Penn and Paige Eber. Louisville's Mariana Torres and Kelly Taylor beat Ashlee Callahan and Mari Soicijaric 8-5 but it wasn't enough to help Louisville's cause in doubles.
"We played tough tennis," said Meg Peavy. "It was another four hour match and we are improving our patience level and footwork. I was pleased to see us flying around chasing down winners." The Bulls then mowed down the top five singles places in straight sets. In the lone three-set match, USF's Jamie Larson came back from 2-3 in the third set to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 over Kelly Taylor.
