Junior defensive end Dewayne White, the reigning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, was named one of 10 semifinalists for the inaugural Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award. The Hendricks Award will be presented at the conclusion of the football season by the Miami Touchdown Club to the best collegiate defensive end in the country.
A prominent committee of more than 40 coaches, national media, and sports information directors selected White along with Virginia Tech's Nathaniel Adibi, Penn State's Michael Haynes, Florida State's Alonzo Jackson, Miami's (Fla.) Jerome McDougle, Alabama's Kindal Moorehead, Texas' Cory Redding, Arizona State's Terrell Suggs, Oklahoma's Jimmy Wilkerson and Miami's (Fla.) Andrew Williams.
The nation's active leader for sacks (33.5) and tackles for loss (49.5), White leads C-USA with seven sacks and needs only two more sacks to surpass UAB's Bryan Thomas for the league's career sack record. As a sophomore, White ranked No. 2 nationally with a C-USA record-tying 15 sacks.
