
Ninth-ranked Field Hockey Defeats No. 13 Kent State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The ninth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated No. 13 Kent State 2-0 in a Mid-American Conference matchup Saturday at Trager Stadium.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard midway through the first half when junior Desire' Miller tipped a penalty corner hit from senior Danielle Barr to give U of L a 1-0 lead at the 12:17 mark. Louisville took the lead into halftime.
Louisville took advantage of another penalty corner in the second half when sophomore Suzanne Irwin gave the Cards an insurance goal on freshman Jen Kastelic's assist at the 44:05 mark to make the score 2-0.
U of L outshot Kent State 10-6 and held an 8-4 penalty corner advantage. Louisville goalkeeper junior Christy Hershey posted three saves in the shutout. Kent State's Jessica Creeden had four stops in the game. The Golden Flashes fall to 9-5 on the season (3-4 MAC).
The Cards (11-6, 5-2) will continue MAC action when they travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to face No. 20 Central Michigan Friday at 2:00 p.m.
