University of Louisville junior Dewayne White was named to the inaugural Watch List for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, it has been announced by the Miami Touchdown Club. The Hendricks Award will be presented at the conclusion of the football season to the best collegiate defensive end in the country. The watch list was selected by a prominent committee of coaches, national media, and sports information directors.
The following criteria will be used in determining the award winner: on-field performance, leadership abilities, and contributions to school and community. The candidates can be from any class (freshmen through senior) as well as from any recognized four-year NCAA accredited school (Division I through Division III). The candidate's primary position must be defensive end. Defensive ends that shift along the line are eligible.
White is the nation's active leader in sacks (32.5) and tackles for loss (47.5). In a win at Memphis on October 8, he became Louisville's all-time sack leader and he needs just 2.5 more to tie the Conference USA record. White already holds the school's all-time TFL mark and has registered 166 tackles in 28 career games. This season, he has recorded 28 tackles (23 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
The Miami Touchdown Club was formed in 1959, for the purpose of supporting and promoting football in Miami-Dade County. In 1961, the Miami TD Club added to its purpose "Operation Scholarship", which is a scouting guide listing high school student-athletes statistics to aid college football coaches in scouting the Miami-Dade area.
