
Volleyball Sweeps UW Milwaukee 3-0

NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior Stacey Mercer had eight kills and eight blocks to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the Illinois State Barker GMC Classic.
Louisville, 2-0, won 30-15, 30-24, 30-27. UWM evened its record to 1-1.
The Cardinals hit .235 with nine service aces and nine team blocks. UW-Milwaukee was its own worst enemy, giving up 41 points on its own service, hitting and blocking errors while hitting just .085.
"UWM is a kind team that can get you to play their style of game, " said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We stayed with our game plan and served much better than we did yesterday and came out on top
Percan had five kills and two aces as the Cardinals were able to score in bunches running off the final nine straight points to win the first game 30-15. U of L hit a blistering .367 with just one hitting error in 30 attacks. Five aces powered the offense, with Emily Roberson adding a pair.
In the second game, the Cardinals allowed UWM to get out to a 15-9 lead. U of L's hitting cooled considerably to .147 in part due to UW- Milwaukee's improved blocking. After blocking no attacks in the first, the Panthers had four in the second set. The Cardinals regrouped after a timeout and strung together six straight points for the 30-24 win.
In the third game, the Panthers would stay close although they never led. UW Milwaukee staved off game point at 29-23 and scored four points before the Cardinals won 30-27 on a UWM hitting error.
The Cardinals play the University of Missouri-Kansas City at 5 p.m.
