LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Year Four of the John L. Smith Era began at the University of Louisville much like the first three with one exception. The 2001 campaign sees the Cardinals enter the year as defending Conference USA Champions.
"We'veworked very hard to get to this point as league champs," said Smith who will put his full roster through drills for the first time Thursday. "Our players, especially our seniors, need to work twice as hard to stay on top of the mountain."
The Cardinals will practice twice a day through August 16 when they will begin preparations for their season opener on Aug. 23. U of L will play host to New Mexico State in the first John Thompson Classic at Papa John's Cardinals Stadium. Kickoff time is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET.
