LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The University of Louisville learned today its Sept. 15 road football game at Illinois will be televised nationally by ESPN2. Slated for a 12:10 p.m. ET kickoff, the Cardinals' contest with the Fighting Illini will mark the first of four U of L games broadcast by the ESPN family of networks.
U of L will open its October schedule with back-to-back appearances beginning with its Thursday, Oct. 4 home game with Colorado State on ESPN. The 7:30 p.m. game will be a rematch of the 2000 AXA Liberty Bowl in which the Rams took the better half of a 22-17 decision.
Twelve days later, U of L will play host to Conference USA foe Southern Miss in the school's first-ever Tuesday night regular season contest. Also scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start, the U of L / USM affair will be televised on ESPN.
The Cardinals travel to East Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 15 for a 7:30 p.m. game broadcast on ESPN.
A possible fifth ESPN appearance could be announced some time during the 2001 season with ESPN holding the rights to broadcast the Cardinals' season finale at TCU on Nov. 24. The network can choose between the Cardinals and Horned Frogs game or the Cincinnati at Memphis matchup depending on league championship implications.
