LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Reece Gaines scored 24 points and Ellis Myles pulled down a career-high 23 rebounds to lead Louisville to a 81-63 win over Tennessee State on Saturday.
The 6-foot-9 Myles also scored 17 points, recording his second straight double-double. He had 15 points and 13 rebounds in Louisville's 90-63 loss to Oregon last Saturday.
Luke Whitehead added 13 points and nine rebounds for Louisville (2-1), which outrebounded the smaller Tigers 58-36.
Garrett Richardson scored 20 and Kyle Rolston added 12 for Tennessee State (2-3), which went 4-of-22 (18 percent) from 3-point range and committed 21 turnovers.
Louisville's full-court pressure generated nine early Tennessee State turnovers, helping the Cardinals build an 11-point lead in the opening nine minutes.
The Tigers stayed within reach by employing a trapping, half-court zone defense that confused the Cardinals at times.
Louisville missed 10 of its first 15 shots before Simeon Naydenov's 3-pointer from the corner gave the Cardinals a 25-14 lead with 11:08 left before halftime.
Louisville still led 45-35 at halftime, despite 13 first-half turnovers. The Cardinals had a 30-18 first-half edge in rebounds, led by Myles' 12.
The Tigers started the second half with a 7-2 run, but inside baskets by Joseph N'Sima and Myles restored Louisville's double-digit lead.
The Cardinals led 59-48 following two free throws by Richardson with 10:27 left. But a 3-pointer and a driving layup by Gaines and a runner in the lane by Bryant Northern pushed Louisville's lead to 18.
The Tigers got no closer than 16 after that, as Louisville won for the 29th straight time when it reaches 80 points.
