LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the second consecutive week a pair of University of Louisville Cardinals were named Conference USA Players of the Week. Cardinal quarterback Dave Ragone earned offensive honors for the second time this season, while defensive lineman Dewayne White took defensive honors.
Ragone accounted for five Louisville touchdowns as the Cardinals defeated Tulane 52-7 in New Orleans on Saturday. Despite playing just three quarters before giving way to the second string offense, the 6-4, 250-pound junior connected on 19 of 30 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Ragone ran for 56 yards and another two scores. He has now moved into sixth place on the Cardinals' all-time passing yardage list.
White anchored the Cardinal defense that held the nation's third leading rusher, Mewelde Moore, to just 27 yards on 16 carries. White registered eight tackles, all solo, including five behind the line of scrimmage ( three sacks). He needs just two more TFL to break the school's single-season record of 19. White also added a quarterback hurry and pass break up to his stat sheet during the day.
The duo now gives the Cardinals five winners this year. Previous winners were Michael Brown (defensive) and Wade Tydlacka (special teams) in Week Eight and Ragone (offensive) in Week Two.
The Cardinals close out their home schedule Saturday against Houston. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
