
Volleyball Outlasts Xavier 3-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Anastasia Zaitseva and Sonja Percan each had 21 kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-2 win over Xavier at the Conference USA/Atlantic 10 Volleyball Challenge at Cardinal Arena.
Louisville improved its record to 24-6 with the 30-23, 30-16, 28-30, 25-30, 15-11 win. Xavier now posts a 25-4 mark.
"We need to stay sharp as we look forward to the post-season. Having a tenacious, game team like Xavier keeping the pressure on us is great." said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach.
Louisville seemed to have the match under control after winning the first two games 30-23 and then a decisive 30-16 going into the break. The Cardinals had hit .405 in the first game and .289 in the second.
Xavier came out and edged the Cardinals in the third game led by Sara Bachus, Kimberly Cockerel and Amanda Lang who each contributed four kills apiece in that game. Louisville hit a chilly .091 in the fourth game scoring 16 kills on 55 attacks and committing 11 errors.
The final game was tight until Louisville gained some breathing room after they went ahead 13-11 and then scored the final two points.
Louisville outblocked XU 15-8 led by Mercer's eight and hit .228 to XU's .159.
In the first match, Cincinnati won over Dayton 30-23, 30-19, 30-18. Louisville and Cincinnati are ranked first and second respectively in the Midwest Region, and Xavier and Dayton are second and third in the Northeast Region.
