LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The first of many anticipated post-season awards rolled in for defensive end Dewayne White as he was named a third team All-American by Football News.
White, a sophomore from Marbury, Ala., currently leads Conference USA with 14 sacks, one shy of the league's single season record, and tackles for loss (22). With 22 tackles for loss through 11 games, White has already established a new Cardinal single season mark and he still has one more regular season game to improve on his record total.
A two-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week this season, White ranks No. 2 in career tackles for loss (39) and No. 4 in career sacks (26) in only 20 starting assignments over his two-year Cardinal career.
White, who spends much of his playing time in the opposing backfield chasing down quarterbacks, has spearheaded a Cardinal defense which has ranked among the nation's best in recent years. Louisville has won back-to-back C-USA titles, owns a 19-4 record and has notched more takeaways (69) than any Division I school during his two-year career.
Louisville (10-1, 6-0) will look to become the fourth C-USA team to negotiate the league slate with an unblemished schedule when it closes out the regular season at conference rival TCU on Friday at 6 p.m.
