Louisville Notes
- Senior WR Zek Parker grabbed a career-high eight passes (78 yards). His previous high was seven catches, accomplished against Colorado State in his last outing and vs. Tulane last season.
- Sophomore TE Richard Owens' second career reception (9 yards in the fourth quarter) also resulted in his second career touchdown. His only previous reception was a 10-yard scoring pass against Grambling in the Cardinals' second game last season. Owens' importance was heightend when TE Ronnie Ghent suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the second quarter.
- Sophomore K Nate Smith's 48-yard field goal in the first quarter was a career long. His previous high was a 43-yarder against Illinois earlier this season.
- Senior WR Deion Branch did not catch a pass for the first time in his 19-game career. He left the contest during the Cardinals' first series with a bruised left collar bone. He entered the game as U of L's top receiver with 37 catches for 631 yards.
- DE Michael Josiah became U of L's all-time leader in tackles for losses. His three sacks for losses of nine yards tonight gave him 37 tackles for loss, passing former Cards Tyrus McCloud (36) and Jeff Henry (35). Josiah also passed current New Orleans Saints DE Joe Johnson (23 career sacks) for third in career sacks, with 26 to his credit.
- Junior S Anthony Floyd intercepted his second pass of the 2001 season (other one vs. Colorado State in the Cards' last game) and the 15th of his career. Floyd is now tied with current Atlanta Falcons DB Ray Buchanon (1989-92) and Leon Williams (1978-81) for second in all-time U of L interceptions. He is one behind U of L career-leader Sam Madison (1993-96, currently with the Miami Dolphins).
- Junior LB Chad Lee's first fumble recovery of the season was a big one. He returned a fourth-quarter fumble (caused by DT Bobby Leffew) 33 yards to the USM two-yard line, where RB Tony Stallings scored on the next play.
- The game is believed to be the first regular season college football game played on a Tuesday.
