LOUISVILLE, Ky -- Colleen Hunter had 30 kills to lead Saint Louis to a 3-2 win over the University of Louisville in Conference USA volleyball action last night in Cardinal Arena.
Louisville, 7-5, drops to 1-2 in the league. Saint Louis, 6-7 now posts a 1-2 C-USA mark. The Billikens won 5-15, 15-7, 12-15, 15-6, 15-13.
"We had lapses and Saint Louis was able to capitalize on them," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin.
Louisville roared out to a decisive 15-5 win in the first game, hitting .385 but that hot hitting cooled drastically in the second game when they hit only .065 in the 15-7 loss. The Cardinals battled to a 15-12 win in the third set but once again couldn't sustain momentum as they lost 15-6 in the fourth. The rally-scored fifth was close but the Cardinals couldn't close.
"We had strong serving with eight aces, but other parts of our game were not there tonight," said Yelin.
Lesley and Sarah Drury combined for five aces. The Cardinals were led by Sonja Percan's 21 kills with Stacey Mercer adding 18 with five blocks.
