LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team lost to Kent State 2-0 on Saturday at Trager Stadium. This marks the first time this season the Cardinals have been shut out.
Kent State's Kristen Johnson broke a scoreless tie on an assist from Jennifer Melnyk with 18:18 remaining in the first half. The Golden Flashes took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Els Brauwer added an insurance goal for Kent State when she scored on a penalty corner with an assist from Helen Jerdan to make the score 2-0.
Louisville goalie Christy Hershey collected eight saves in the game. Kent State's goalie Jodi Lume stopped four of the Cardinals' shots.
Kent State improves to 7-3 (3-0 MAC). The Golden Flashes will play Ohio University on Sept. 29.
Louisville (6-3, 1-1 MAC) will go on the road to play MAC opponents Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 29 and Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 30.
