LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Darryl Sharp, who has coached at the high school and AAU levels, has joined the University of Louisville men's basketball staff as an administrative associate to Cardinals' Head Coach Denny Crum.
Sharp's duties will include on-campus recruiting functions, game day activities, some off-the-court responsibilities with student-athletes and working closely with Crum.
"Darryl is an intelligent, hard-working person with a lot of contacts," said Crum. "He should be very helpful in on-campus recruiting. He can take a lot of work off my hands to free me up to spend more time with our team and practices, public relations and charity events."
Sharp will replace university relations assistant Jerry Jones, who has operated as Crum's administrative assistant for the past four year. Jones, who served as an assistant coach under Crum for 24 seasons, plans to retire at the end of the 1999-2000 season.
Sharp was an assistant coach for two seasons with the 17-and-under Howard Pulley AAU team in Minneapolis, Minn., a team which has produced such notable collegiate players as Connecticut's Khalid El-Amin, Kansas' Jeff Boche, Seton Hall's Darius Lane and Duke's Nick Horvath.
A 1990 economics graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Sharp also served as an assistant coach at Washburn High School in Minneapolis for two seasons (1996-98) and one year as a volunteer assistant for the University of Wisconsin (1992-93). Sharp has also worked in private business in investment banking, business development and human resources.
