Maybin's Career Night Leads Cards Past Marquette

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Marques Maybin scored 26 points and Nate Johnson added 12 as Louisville beat Marquette 76-64 Sunday.
Maybin made eight of 14 field goals, all eight of his free throw attempts and handed out four assists as the Cardinals (14-9, 5-5 Conference USA) won their third straight game.
John Cliff had 16 points, Brian Wardle and Oluoma Nnamaka 15 each and Cordell Henry 14 as the Golden Eagles (13-9, 6-5) lost for the first time in three games.
Louisville got outrebounded 49-25 in a 66-64 overtime loss at Marquette on Jan. 15. This time around, the Cardinals outrebounded Marquette 36-34 as Dion Edward grabbed 11 and Johnson seven.
Louisville also had a significant advantage at the free throw line, making 20 of 29 while Marquette hit six of its 11 attempts.
Freshman point guard Reece Gaines had 11 points and four rebounds for Louisville. Nnamaka added a game-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season for Marquette.
Two Henry free throws gave Marquette a 41-39 lead with 13:04 to play. Reserve Quintin Bailey then scored six points during a 9-0 Louisville run to put the Cardinals up 48-41 with 10:35 remaining.
Louisville increased the lead to as many as 14 on an Edward putback with 3:20 to play, and the Golden Eagles would get no closer than six the rest of the way.
Marquette led by as many as six, 28-22, with 2:20 to play in the first half. Louisville closed out the half with a 7-0 run, including a Maybin 3-pointer, to take a 29-28 halftime lead.
