Cards Rout Alaska Anchorage At MBB Shootout

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Kim Perry) - Louisville dominated host Alaska Anchorage 108-76 in game 10 of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. Louisville placed fourth in the shootout and UAA took sixth.
The Cardinals came out strong in the first half with a 29-2 run against the Seawolves. Louisville kept UAA at a distance throughout the game, holding the score roughly 30 points beyond the 'Wolves' reach.
Louisville head coach Denny Crum said the Cardinals tied for the school record with 32 assists. Crum said pleased with his team's play.
"The assists go hand-in-hand with good shooting (percentage)," said Crum.
Dion Edward of Louisville said the team had a good transition game, which was complimented by the player's fast pace.
"Since we're not real tall, real big, we have to do it with quickness," said Edward.
The Cardinal's Nate Johnson of Louisville scored the game high 24 points and shot 12 for 14 from the floor.
Tony Williams was honored with Player of the Game, providing 20 points for the Cardinals.
The Seawolves head coach Charlie Bruns said the 'Wolves played better after the second half. Bruns complimented the play of UAA's Serge Using.
"The biggest thing we got out of tonight was Serge Using," said Bruns. "He became a man tonight."
Using scored 16 points and had a game high eight rebounds. He said the Seawolves contributed as a team.
"There's no egos, we're sticking together," said Using. "It's us against the world."
UAA's Ed Kirk sparked the Seawolves offense with 22 points and shot 6-6 in free throws.
Xavier will battle Washington this afternoon for third place, while Kansas takes on Georgia Tech in the championship game that will be aired on ESPN tonight at 8 PM.
