LOUISVILLE, KY. -- University of Louisville sophomore safety Anthony Floyd added to his post-season collection of honors this morning by being named a second-team All-America choice by the Associated Press. Floyd's selection to the squad makes him the fifth Cardinal in the last six seasons to find a spot on one of the three prestigious rosters.
Already selected as a Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America, Floyd was the nation's co-leader with 10 interceptions in 2000 including three in U of L's upset win at No. 11 Southern Mississippi.
A first-team All-Conference USA selection, Floyd set a school and league record with his 10 interceptions while his three picks versus USM set a C-USA single game mark.
Former Cardinals to earn AP All-America status in the past six seasons are Ibn Green, TE (1998 third-team), Sam Madison, DB (1996 third-team), Tyrus McCloud, LB (1996 third-team) and Roman Oben, OL (1995 third-team).
Two other Conference USA standouts join Floyd on the honoree list with Cincinnati kicker Jon Ruffin earning first-team honors and Southern Miss defensive lineman Cedric Scott placing on the third team.
Floyd and his U of L teammates return to action Dec. 29 as they take a No. 22 AP ranking into a Liberty Bowl matchup with No. 23 Colorado State. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. ET.
