Louisville, Ky. - One of the nation's top High Jumpers signed a national letter-of-intent to participate with the Louisville Track and Field team next season announced head coach Gene Weis.
Kelley Bowman (Berea High School, Ky.), recorded the country's fourth best High Jump mark (5-10.5 - second best for returning student-athletes) in winning the 2000 Kentucky Class A State High Jump title. That win represented the third consecutive state high jump title for Bowman, and stands as the overall (all classes) state record for the event. In total, Bowman has earned six Kentucky State Championships, having also won three consecutive titles in the 300 meter hurdles.
In addition to winning the 2000 Kentucky Class A State titles in the HJ and 300 H, Bowman also recorded a runner-up finish in the 200 meters, and a fourth in the 100 meters. Altogether, she amassed 33 points for Berea High School which was good enough to earn her school a fifth place finish in the overall `team' standings.
"Kelley has proven she will be a significant player at this level, even before she started her senior year in high school," said head coach Gene Weis. "She is already at the NCAA Provisional Qualifying level in the HJ, plus we feel she has shown us skills that will allow her development as a multi-event athlete."
Bowman was recruited by many of the nation's top collegiate Track & Field programs, and ultimately chose the Louisville over Kentucky and Tennessee.
