LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville's Arnold Jackson broke the Division I-A career receptions record against Army on Saturday.
Jackson came into the game needing seven catches to pass the mark of 298 set by Nevada's Trevor Insley in 1999.
The senior made four catches on Louisville's opening drive and added another reception on the Cardinals' third possession. He also had a 55-yard punt return in the first half that set up Louisville's second touchdown.
Jackson tied Insley's record with a catch on Louisville's first possession of the second half. Louisville quarterback Dave Ragone tried to connect with Jackson on a bomb later in the drive, but the pass fell incomplete.
Ragone threw third-quarter touchdown passes to Zek Parker and Deion Branch to put the Cardinals up 28-10.
Jackson was wide-open the middle of the field and dropped a short pass on the second play of the fourth quarter.
He would have set the record on a short touchdown pass later on the drive, but a holding penalty wiped out the play.
Jackson set the record on a 6-yard pass from Ragone with 7:50 left in the game. Several teammates congratulated Jackson after the catch and officials flagged the Cardinals for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Jackson has caught a pass in 45 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the nation.
