
Field Hockey Edges Radford in Overtime

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Radford 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday at Trager Stadium.
The Highlanders (4-13) broke a scoreless tie in the first half as Allison Douglass connected on a series penalty corners that were awarded as time expired. Radford took the 1-0 lead into halftime Louisville's Jen Welgosh scored with 24:21 left in the second half to tie the game. Despite a 10-0 shot advantage, the Cards were unable to score again in the second half, forcing the game to go into overtime.
The Cardinals were quickly awarded four penalty corners in the first few minutes of the overtime period. Radford's goalie Brooke Peterson collected four saves in the flurry of activity before U of L sophomore Keri Beckhorn scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season to win the game 3:45 into the overtime period.
With this win, U of L (11-7, 3-5 Mid-American Conference) ties the school record for most wins in a regular season. The Cards will play host to MAC opponent Central Michigan on Friday, Oct. 27 at Trager Stadium at 4:00 p.m. and will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28 against Ball State at Cardinal Stadium at noon.
