The University of Louisville men’s and women’s tennis programs are proud to call the three-time award-winning Bass-Rudd Tennis Center home. Located directly across from Cardinal Park, the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center boasts six indoor courts and eight lighted outdoor courts with electronic scoreboards.
The facility recently underwent renovations with new locker rooms as part of a collaboration with Calhoun Construction. This facility upgrades are the latest in a continuing effort to keep the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center among the best in the nation. Prior to the 2020 dual match season with updates to the indoor and outdoor courts. A state-of-the-art video board was added for the indoor courts in 2010 and an outdoor video board was installed before the 2018-19 season.
The building also houses men’s and women’s locker rooms, a training room, player lounge areas and offices to accompany its brand new Deco-Turf surfaced courts. Another special feature of the tennis center is the Wimbledon Room, a conference room overlooking the indoor courts.
The University of Louisville was the host site for the men’s 2010 NCAA first and second rounds as the Cards advanced to the round of 16 for the first time in school history. In 2006, fans filled the stands when the Bass-Rudd was the site of the NCAA tournament first and second rounds, marking the first time in school history that the Cards were selected to host the event.
This was not the first major tournament to take place at the facility. The Bass-Rudd Tennis Center was also the site of the 2005 Conference USA Men’s Tennis Championship and the 2004 C-USA Women’s Tennis Championship. The BRTC also served as the site of the 2002 and 1997 Conference USA Men’s Tennis Tournaments.
In addition to college events, the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center has also been the host site for United States Tennis Association events including WTA Challengers in 2003 and 2005
Known as one of the best on--campus college tennis facilities in the nation, the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center was awarded the 1995 Kentucky Tennis Association Facility of the Year and the United States Tennis Association College Facility of the Year. The storied venue won the USTA Best Facility Award for Kentucky. in 2015 and 2010.
UofL opened the doors to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in 1994. The facility is named in honor of Lewis ‘Sonny’ Bass and Mason Rudd, who each donated $500,000 toward its construction.
Aside from being the home for the Cardinals’ intercollegiate tennis teams, UofL also offers memberships and court time for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
