Breaunna Addison
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
- Email:
Breaunna Addison, a decorated collegiate and prep tennis player who has served as the head coach at Drake University, joined the University of Louisville women's tennis coaching staff in July of 2024.
"I feel extremely fortunate and excited to have Breaunna join our program," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "She covers all the bases as far as experience, whether it being a former assistant coach, associate head coach or head coach, she has done it all. I need a partner in guiding the players on the team, she will not be working for me but it will be us working together to lead the team and she is very excited about the opportunity."
She has seven years of NCAA Division I coaching experience at three institutions and served as Drake's University director of women's tennis head coach last season. Â
"She has a lot of experience coaching and really knows the game but she's also going to bring on court playing experience," said Beckham. "I would hope all the players on the team would want to accomplish what she has as a player. Her playing resume is impressive. I believe it's very beneficial to have a good grasp on what players are going through on the court because you have actually played at a high level and Breaunna has definitely done that. She will be able to bring real experience to help improve every player on the team."
Last season at Drake, she coached Ines Stephani, who was named the MVC Player of the Year and Mille Haagensen, who was named to the All-Conference first team in the number two singles spot. Stephani compiled a singles record of 15-3 in 2024 competing in the number one singles spot for the Bulldogs. She also won three MVC Player of the Week awards, including back-to-back Singles Player of the Week awards to close the regular season and Doubles Team of the Week in January. Stephani also went 7-1 in MVC singles play. Haagensen led the Bulldogs in singles wins in 2024, notching a 16-4 record. She also dominated the MVC, going 8-0 in conference singles play.
Addison brings a deep knowledge of the sport of tennis and a rich history as both a player and a coach. Prior to her stint at Drake, she spent the two years as the associate head tennis coach at Howard University in Washington, D.C. At Howard, Addison led the Bison women's program to a 10-5 overall record and undefeated 6-0 mark in MEAC competition during the 2021-22 season. She also assisted in coaching the Bison's men's program for two seasons.
Prior to Howard, Addison spent three seasons as an assistant tennis coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Breaunna helped the RedHawks capture the 2018-19 Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament crowns. Under her leadership, Miami also secured their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
Prior to Miami, Addison coached at LAT Tennis Academy in Boynton Beach, Fla where she served as a high-performance coach.
Addison began coaching tennis after a stellar playing career at the University of Texas at Austin (2013-16). Breaunna was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams and a Big 12 Conference championship team while at Texas. Individually, she reached the 2013 NCAA Singles Semifinals and earned multiple honors including All-American recognition (2013-16), Big 12 Player of the Year (2014 & 2016), Big 12 Freshman of the Year (2013), Big 12 Tournament Most Valuable Player (2013), and an NCAA Elite 89 nomination.
Breaunna also had an outstanding prep career as a former top-ranked player in both Girls 12 and 14 divisions. She also won three International Tennis Federation Junior Titles and reached an international ranking as high as 139th in the world.
Addison completed her undergraduate studies at Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. She also earned her Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health with a concentration in Sports Psychology while at Miami of Ohio.
