Camille Ross was named the Director of Operations for the University of Louisville cross country and track and field programs in July 2021.
“The Director of Operations position has truly become one of the most important elements of high-level athletics and Camille was clearly an outstanding candidate,” said Cowper upon her hiring. “She has a high-quality background within our sport and tremendous personal character. I’m confident she will quickly grow rapport with our students and staff in route to making a significant impact on campus.”
Ross arrives in Louisville from The Redeemer's School in Jackson, Mississippi where she was member of the support staff while pursuing her master’s degree in athletic administration in intercollegiate athletics. In 2019, she served a term as a volunteer coach for the track and field program at Mississippi College, assisting with daily training and workouts for the short sprints group.
“I would like to thank Coach Cowper and the search committee for believing that my experiences, character, and values lined with those that they were looking for in this position,” said Ross. “I am excited to be an important part of the support system for both our track & field coaches and student-athletes, and I look forward to assisting in the process of meeting our program academic and athletic goals. I am thrilled to be a Cardinal!”
Her recent role at Mississippi College marked Ross’ second stint with the Choctaws. She also served as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs from 2011-15. During that span, she implemented training programs short sprints, hurdles and horizontal jumps while maintaining compliance, assisting with team travel and meet management, ordering equipment and supervising staff and volunteers for practices and home meets. She coached three American Southwest Conference champions and eight top-five finishers as well as one National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor champion and three top-four finishers, and five top-five finishers for the NCCAA Outdoor Championships.
Following her time as an assistant coach at Mississippi College, Ross served as the head coach for women’s cross country and track and field at Jackson State University from 2015-19. Under her leadership, the Tigers produced four Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions and several school records. Her student-athletes were also successful in the classroom with more than 60 earning SWAC All-Academic team honors.
Other previous coaching stops include Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Dartmouth, and Central Michigan.
At RPI, Ross coached athletes to 28 Liberty League Conference titles, eight NYSCTC titles, one All-American, setting three Liberty League and three school records. The Engineers’ team championships came with the 2009 and 2010 men’s indoor teams, while the 2010 women’s indoor team also won the league crown. The men’s and women’s outdoor teams collected three titles (2009, 2010, and 2011) while the 2010 indoor men’s team and 2011 outdoor men’s team garnered championships.
Ross was also part of the Liberty League Staff of the Year at RPI for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 women’s indoor teams, as well as the 2010 men’s indoor team. She also earned Staff of the Year honors in each of her three seasons of outdoor with the men’s and women’s teams. The 2011 men’s outdoor season helped Ross to earn NYSCTC Staff of the Year honors.
From 2005-08, Ross was the coaching intern/assistant coach at Dartmouth College. In the 2007-08 season, she worked with the women’s cross country team and continued assisting with sprints and hurdles. The women’s 4x400m relay team collected three All-Time list performances, with the top time shattering the school record. Athletes also added all–time performances in the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays, 400m hurdles, 60m hurdles, 400m and 500m. She also assisted with sprint and hurdle crews who broke five school records and won three Heptagonal Championship titles.
Ross spent one season as the graduate assistant at Central Michigan University, where she worked with the sprints, hurdles, high jump and multi-event athletes. During her time there, athletes in her event areas set five school records and won two Mid-American Conference titles. Six were NCAA regional qualifiers and another advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Ross holds USATF Level 1 Certification and USATF 2 Level Certified in sprints, relays, hurdles and jumps. She is a proud alumnus of NACWAA/Hers Leadership Institute (now NCAA Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement), National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and a member of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Ross graduated in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic art design with a coaching minor. A member of the UW-Whitewater Athletic Hall of Fame, she earned nine-time All-American honor, broke every UW-Whitewater and WIAC indoor/outdoor sprint record under 200m, and was a 12-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field champion.
