Bio
Junior Year:
- Walk-on guard who has lettered three years as a reserve.
- Produced a career-high seven points against South Carolina in the NIT semifinals.
- Made his first career start against Delaware State in the NIT first round, contributing three points, two assists and a steal in 14 minutes of action.
- Handed out a career-high three assists against Prairie View A&M in 10 minutes of action, adding a point and a rebound.
- Buried a three-pointer against Akron.
- Did not dress at St. John's due to a stomach virus.
Sophomore Year:
- Earned a scholarship for his sophomore season after walking on as a freshman.
- Connected on his first three-pointer against Marquette (1/26/05).
- Scored his first basket of the season against TCU (1/8/05).
- Had two rebounds and a steal in 12 minutes of playing time at Southern Miss (1/11/05).
- Unavailable for action against Louisiana-Lafayette (3/18/05) with a stomach virus.
- Missed the Cardinals first four games and several days of practice with a deep bruise in his right calf muscle.
- Produced two steals and a free throw in six minutes of action against North Carolina A&T (12/14/04).
- U of L was 15-0 when he played at least one minute in a game.
- His uncles John and Jamey Bennett played baseball at Morehead State.
Freshman Year:
- One of three non-scholarship players on the Cardinal roster in 2003-04 as a freshman, a list which also included Brad Gianiny and Perrin Johnson.
- Scored his first collegiate points on a three-point goal against VMI, also grabbing a rebound in six minutes on the court.
- Played briefly against Austin Peay, Toledo, Southern Mississippi, USF, Houston, TCU and Saint Louis for his only other appearances of the season.
High School:
- Averaged 24.5 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists as a senior last year in leading Frankfort (Ky.) High School to a 20-8 record and their third staight district title.
- Second-team all-state selection by the Courier-Journal as a senior.
- Class valedictorian at Frankfort High School after being home schooled through the eighth grade.
- Four-sport letterman at Frankfort, also participating in baseball, cross country and track.
- Won the Kentucky state A championship in the 400 meter dash as a junior (time of 50.60), earning all-state honors in 2002.
- Helped the Frankfort baseball team win its first district title in 14 years, advancing to the region for the first time since 1993.
- Four-time academic all-state cross country honoree.
Personal:
- Born Dec. 17, 1984 ... Son of Tom and Carol Current ... Has two younger brothers (Will, David) and one younger sister (Mary Beth) ... Major is business management.
- Personal goal is to gain a well-rounded education and win a national championship.
- Enjoys playing bridge and the piano in his spare time.
- Feels Owen Wilson would be the best person to play him in a movie.
- What impresses him the most about Coach Pitino is "his work ethic and his ability to maximize his players' potential."
- Few people know that he can play bridge.
- Chose to attend U of L because of Coach Pitino, basketball and the education he is receiving at U of L.
- If you walked into his dorm room, the first thing you'd notice is his refrigerator.
- Best moment of his athletic career was the comeback victory over West Virginia for the 2005 NCAA Albuquerque Region Championship and reaching the Final Four in St. Louis.
- Wanted to wear No. 21 because he wore the same number in high school.
- Best basketball advice given to him was "there is always someone working harder; don't let it happen."
- Bill Graham (AAU coach), Tom Current and Bobby Scott have had the greatest influence on his athletic career.
- Would most like to meet Muhammad Ali.
