After a 27-year high school coaching career in the state of Ohio, Tim Austing joins Pat Kelsey's staff as the special assistant to the head coach beginning in the 2026-27 season.Â
Austing joins Kelsey’s staff after five seasons as head coach of Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He led Sycamore to two Greater Miami Conference (GMC) Championships and a district title in 2025, its first district championship since 2004. He was named GMC Coach of the Year in 2021, his first year at Sycamore.

In the early 2010’s, Austing was the head boys basketball coach at Fairfield for five seasons. During his tenure, he won two Greater Miami Conference titles, earned two GMC Coach of the Year awards and led the Indians to the 2012 OHSAA Division I Final Four, the program’s first state final four appearance in over 70 years. Austing was named 2012 Cincinnati Enquirer Coach of the Year for his achievement.

Prior to beginning his head coaching stint at Fairfield in 2009, Austing was the longtime assistant coach to Joe Shoenfeld at Elder High School, where Austing and Kelsey both graduated from in 1992 and 1993, respectively.
