
- Louisville finished 32nd in the nation in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the 13th consecutive season that the Cardinals have finished among the top 40 teams in the country. The Cardinals’ women’s sports programs ranked 12th in the nation in the Capital One Cup standings.
- The Cardinals recorded 50 All-Americans during the 2022-23 athletic seasons, most notably, 35 coming from the women’s swimming and diving program. Volleyball also registered four All-Americans in its run to the national title game.
- UofL finished the 2023-24 campaign with 13 different sport programs ranked in the top 25 at one point during their seasons, with seven programs ranking in the top 10 at some of its respective seasons.
- Louisville’s 3.28 overall department grade point average was the highest in the program’s history. UofL’s 92% Graduation Success Rate is also tied for the highest in program history. The Cardinals have achieved 25 consecutive semesters with a department GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Louisville completed the first year of its transformational partnership with UofL Health. The partnership has yielded numerous gains for the athletic department, but none more notable than the unprecedented growth of UofL’s mental health and performance department, which now includes 10 professionals – the most in the ACC.
- UofL student-athletes completed more than 4,000 hours of community service through the Cards Care program.
- Louisville partnered with L&N Federal Credit Union for a 20-year, $41 million commitment to secure the naming rights to Cardinal Stadium, now named L&N Stadium. The Cardinals also opened the Angel’s Envy Bourbon Club at L&N Stadium behind a generous $4 million gift from the Louisville-based distiller. Additionally at L&N Stadium, UofL unveiled a brand-new turf field featuring the Heisman Bird at midfield and updated fonts and styling.
- In partnership with the university, Louisville opened Denny Crum Hall made possible by L&N Federal Credit Union. The state-of-the-art, $23.5 million residence hall is home to men’s basketball, women’s basketball and lacrosse student-athletes, as well as the general student population. The residence hall is located directly across Floyd Street from the Planet Fitness Kueber Center.
- UofL said goodbye to the legend Denny Crum in May when the Hall of Fame basketball coach passed at the age of 86. Louisville hosted a Celebration of Life open to the public for Crum at the KFC Yum! Center that was attended by thousands.
- A $1 million project was completed to update the entrance and concourse of the baseball program’s Jim Patterson Stadium.
- Louisville expanded its ELEVATE NIL program through a new partnership with INFLCR and the creation of the CARDS NIL Exchange to help student-athletes and businesses/individuals connect easier than ever before. This added to ongoing NIL relationships with the 502Circle collective, the Fanatics Name & Number program and the adidas Affiliate program.

Baseball

- The Cardinals finished the season with a 31-24 overall record in Dan McDonnell's 17th season at the helm.
- Jack Payton led the Cardinals in hitting for the second straight season, pacing the Cards in average, runs, hits, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Payton was one of three players named a finalist for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award.
- Carson Liggett and Christian Knapczyk each earned All-ACC honors, while freshman pitcher Kayden Campbell was invited to training camp for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
- Christian Knapczyk (Round 5 - Cleveland Guardians), Tate Kuehner (Round 7 - Milwaukee Brewers), Ryan Hawks (Round 8 - Seattle Mariners) and Jack Payton (Round 11 - San Francisco Giants) were each selected in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Men's Basketball

- The Cards completed their first season under new head coach Kenny Payne, a former standout player at UofL and in NBA, as well as a member of the Cardinals’ 1986 national championship team. Payne was the only Division I head coach in the country who won a national title as a player and coach, and was selected in the NBA Draft.
- Louisville honored the historic 2013 team during the season, hosting team members for a reunion and halftime recognition in February. The Cardinals made it a night to remember with an 83-73 victory over Clemson in front of a season-high crowd at the KFC Yum! Center.
- Following the season, UofL built strong momentum with a top-five recruiting class heading into 2023-24. The program also said farewell to a legend with the passing of Hall of Fame coach Denny Crum in May. Louisville honored Crum with a Celebration of Life at the KFC Yum! Center with thousands in attendance, featuring speeches and video recordings from numerous titans of the game.

- The Cards advanced to the Elite Eight for the fifth straight tournament, the only school in the country to make each of the last five Elite Eights
- Louisville won 25 games or more for the 11th straight season, won 20 games or more for the 13th straight season and reached the Sweet 16 for the sixth straight tournament, the third-longest active streak in the country.
- The Cards reached the ACC Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in program history.
- Mykasa Robinson set the program record for career games played (162), while two players eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for their careers (Liz Dixon and Hailey Van Lith).

- Ian Kibiwot earned All-Southeast Region honors with a 17th-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional.
- Kibiwot also recorded four top-ten finishes on the season, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
- Led by Madeline Castleberry and Sydney Partyka throughout the season, the duo made up the top two Louisville finishers in five of the team’s six meets.
- Eleven Cardinals were named to the All-ACC Academic Team. On the men's side were Isaac Kiprop, Forest MacKenzie, Ethan Meyer, Jack Moore, and Nolan Satterfield. Representing the women were Madeline Castleberry, Callie Friske, Megan John, Ellie Maurer, Sydney Partyka, and Lexie Paszkiewicz.
Field Hockey

- The 2022 squad registered a 12-8 overall record after earning its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid.
- Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb earned NFHCA All-America honors, marking the eighth straight year the Cardinals have placed at least two players on the All-America teams, a streak which dates back to the 2015 season.
- Emilia Kaczmarczyk joined Kouijzer and Plumb on the NFHCA All-West Region squad while Sasha Elliott earned all-ACC honors along with Kouijzer and Plumb.
- Plumb was tabbed the NFCA Division I National Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second straight year and was also named the ACC Field Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Football

- The Cards finished with an 8-5 overall record and a 4-4 ACC record, which was capped by a 24-7 win over Cincinnati in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. The bowl win was the first since a victory over Mississippi State in the 2019 Music City Bowl.
- The Cards finished the season leading the nation and the ACC in sacks with 50. Louisville totaled a season best 8.0 sacks against Wake Forest and 7.0 versus Virginia and Cincinnati. Louisville also finished third nationally in turnovers gained.
- A first-team All-ACC performer, linebacker Yasir Abdullah, a fifth-round selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars, finished 15th nationally in sacks with 9.5 and 23rd in tackles for loss with 14.5. He led the ACC in sacks and closed the year and was fourth in tackles for loss.
- Wide receiver Tyler Hudson became the first player since 2019 to record 1,000 yards receiving in a season and only the seventh different player in school history to finish the year with 1,000 yards receiving. He ended the season with 69 catches for 1,034 yards.



Men's Golf

- The men’s golf team recorded its third-straight regional appearance and 13th overall in school history. Playing in the Morgan Hill Regional, the Cardinals finished in a tie for eighth.
- As a unit, the Cards recorded five team finishes in the top four including head coach Ryan Blagg’s first tournament win at the Aggie Invitational. The Cardinals finished with the fifth-best team stroke average in school history.
- Louisville recorded a pair of All-ACC performers in Jiri Zuska and Max Kennedy. Kennedy, Zuska and Sebastian Moss were PING All-Region selections and Kennedy was a PING Honorable Mention All-American.
- Kennedy posted seven-straight top 10 finishes to close his third season and his 71.30 stroke average is sixth-best in school history. He picked up his first career win at the Aggie Invitational and was named to the Palmer Cup International Team.
Women's Golf

- The Cards had seven top-10 finishes on the season and two top-5 finishes. Their best finish came at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate, where the Cardinals finished third overall.
- Carmen Griffiths earned an individual bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. She competed at the Westfield Regional in Indiana and finished in 62nd place after carding a 14-over-par 230.
- Griffiths was named Co-ACC Golfer of the Month on October. During the month, she recorded her first collegiate victory at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate with a 2-under-par 214. She tallied her first hole in one in the second round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. She shot a 5-under 67 in the second round, the lowest round by any golfer in the tournament.
- As individuals, they had seven Top-10 finishes and Carmen Griffiths led the squad with four finishes inside the Top-10.
Lacrosse

- UofL picked up its first win of the season, dropping No 25 Colorado 12-5 — the first win over a ranked opponent since 2021.
- Nicole Perroni broke the school record for consecutive games scoring a goal. Her goal-scoring streak of 36 covered two years, beginning on April 24, 2021. Perroni finished the season as the team’s leading scorer with 37 goals, while Hannah Morris added 30.
- Allegra Catalano was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's At-Large Academic All-District Team. Catalano played in 14 games with 13 starts and finished the season with 12 goals, two assists, 35 shots, and 25 shots on goal. The senior was fourth on the team in shots (35) and shots on goal (25) this season. She also recorded a hat trick and led the team in goals in four different games.
- Senior midfielder Nicole Perroni was named to the All-ACC Second Team, while freshman Negai Nakazawa has earned ACC All-Freshman Team Honors.



Rowing
- The University of Louisville rowing team finished seventh after two days of racing at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C. Caitlin Bentley earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
- The Third Varsity Eight boat made the Grand Final at the ACC Championships where the Cardinals finished sixth with a time of 7:25.658. In the Petite Finals, the Varsity Eight boat turned in the time 6:43.228 for the victory. The Second Varsity Eight boat that clocked in at 6:59.878, almost six seconds ahead of second place Boston College, in a decisive victory in the petite final at ACCs.
- Madison (Maddy) Cicha, UofL 2023 graduate, was named a Fulbright scholar and will use the grant to go to the Netherlands to pursue a master’s degree in conservation and restoration ecology at Radboud University/Nijmegen. Cicha is two-time captain of the Women’s D1 Rowing team.
- The Cards put 35 on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with five rowers boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Men's Soccer

- The Cardinals finished with a 9-6-3 overall record, earning a NCAA Tournament berth for the third time in John Michael Hayden's four seasons and a NCAA Tournament home match for the second straight year.
- Sander Roed and Aboubacar Camara each garnered All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season. Roed led the Cardinals with eight assists, while Camara was Louisville's top goal-scorer with six tallies.
- The Cardinals scored a pair of top-10 victories on the season, defeating No. 10 Saint Louis 3-1 in the season opener along with a 2-1 win over No. 8 Pitt in September.
- Parker Forbes, Josh Jones, Sander Roed and Bradley Sample were all selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team.
Women's Soccer

- Head Coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes won her 200th career game on the road against NC State. She is the all-time winningest coach in program history.
- Defender Sarah Hernandez finished her Louisville career ranked second in program history for career games played (82).
- The Cardinals knocked off #23 Memphis on a neutral site, their first win over a ranked opponent since 2019.
- Louisville did not allow a goal for the three-straight matches, their longest scoreless streak since 2019.



Softball

- Louisville finished with 36 wins, the most wins since 2014. The Cardinals’ 16 ACC wins were tied for the most in program history since joining the league in 2015.
- Louisville established a new school record with 64 home runs, breaking the previous mark of 63 set in the 2013 season.
The 2023 Cardinals also set new school records in season (offensive) walks (198) and tied the all-time mark with 18 sacrifice flies. - Taylor Roby became Louisville's 10th softball All-America selection. Roby finished the season tied for second in the nation with a school-record 23 home runs this season and owns the school's career mark with 63. She also stands tied for seventh among the active NCAA career leaders and third in the ACC career leaders.
- Sarah Gordon was named the ACC Freshman of the Year becoming Louisville’s first ACC Freshman of the Year and the program’s first conference Freshman of the Year since 2004. Gordon was also named to the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 List.
Men's Swimming & Diving
- The Louisville men finished 13th at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis along with a third-place showing at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
- Five Cardinals earned All-America honors, while 14 garnered honorable mention recognition.
- The Cardinals won two gold medals at ACC Championships (Abdelrahman Elaraby, 50 free; Denis Petrashov, 200 breaststroke).
- Abdelrahman El-Araby was named as a recipient of the 2023 Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award which honors student-athletes who have overcome great personal, academic, and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics. These individuals have persevered and made significant personal strides toward success.
Women's Swimming & Diving
- The Louisville women’s swimming and diving team earned a trophy by finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships. The Cards also took third at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
- The Cardinals earned 35 All-America honors with Else Praasterink becoming the first UofL women’s diver to earn All-American honors, reaching the finals in both 3M and Platform.
- Gabi Albiero was a three-time ACC Swimmer of the Week, and was also named to the USA Swimming National Team and represented the USA in the Duel in the Pool, a head-to-head competition with Australia.
- Gabi Albiero, Julia Dennis, Abby Hay, Paige Hetrick, Paige Kuwata, Christiana Regenauer, Rye Ulett, Tristen Ulett, Cecilia Viberg, Ella Welch were all named to the ACC All-Academic list.



Men's Tennis

- The Cardinals finished the season with a 17-12 overall record and earned its second straight at-large berth and 14th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament. After defeating Texas Tech in the first round, Louisville advanced to NCAA Regional Final for the first time since 2017.
- Etienne Donnet earned an at-large bid to the NCAA singles championship while Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues represented the Cardinals in doubles and earned All-America distinction after reaching the quarterfinals and finishing the season at No. 9 in the ITA doubles rankings. Rodrigues and Salle became the second doubles team in program history to earn All-America distinction and the first since 2011 when Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk did so after reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
- The 2023 campaign marked the third time in program history that the Cardinals earned NCAA tournament bids as a team as well as singles and doubles and the first since 2011.
- Louisville finished the season at No. 34 in the ITA team rankings with three nationally-ranked singles players: Etienne Donnet (51), Fabien Salle (72) and Natan Rodrigues (83). Salle and Rodrigues were ranked ninth in the final doubles rankings. UofL spent four weeks in the top 25 this season, reaching as high as No. 20 on Feb. 28.
Women's Tennis

- The Cardinals finished 10-15 overall in 2022-23. UofL beat Boston College in the first round of the ACC Championship in Cary, N.C. before falling to No. 36 Syracuse in the quarterfinals.
- The Cardinals were led by Tyra Richardson’s 12-12 record in singles at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Andrea DiPalma posted a 10-13 mark at No. 1 singles and was ranked as high as No. 109 in singles for the Cardinals.
- Andrea DiPalma, Sasha Gorchanyuk, Tyra Richardson, Jamilah Snells and CiCi Xin named to the 2023 All-ACC Academic Team. Richardson, Gorchanyuk and Xin were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Tennis Academic All-District team.
- Arielle Nealy was named as the first scholarship recipient of The Debra J. Holmes Scholarship. this scholarship is designed to support current Black female collegiate athletes preparing for their future and transition from college athletics.
Men's Track & Field

- Allen (high jump) and Paul Kallenberg (decathlon) won ACC outdoor titles, while Allen (high jump) and Miller (200m) both won individual ACC indoor championships.

Volleyball

- Louisville finished the season at 31-3, 17-1 winning a share of the ACC title, reaching its second straight Final Four and tallying a national runner-up finish, losing to Texas in the national championship match.
- The Cardinals were ranked inside the top five in every poll throughout the 2022 season, reaching as high as No. 2 nationally.
- Claire Chaussee was named to the First Team AVCA All-American Team. Joining Chaussee as an All-American were Elena Scott, who earned Second Team honors, Amaya Tillman, who earned Third Team honors, and Raquel Lazaro, who earned Honorable Mention honors.
- Louisville took home four of the ACC's top awards: Dani Busboom Kelly (Coach of the Year), Chaussee (Player of the Year), Tillman (Defensive Player of the Year) and Lazaro (Setter of the Year).
- Amaya Tillman won the ACC Post Graduate Scholarship and was named the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Volleyball. Tillman also won the Elite 90 Award for Division I Volleyball.
