LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The fourth season of Head Coach Jeff Brohm's tenure officially got underway as the University of Louisville football team opened 2026 Spring Practice on Tuesday afternoon inside the the Trager Indoor Practice Facility.
"I thought it was a good first day. We've spent a lot of time since everyone got back to school, learning the new nuances of the offense and defense, a lot of new players, absorbing the information that's about they've been getting in good shape, physically and condition wise, and today we had an opportunity to put it all together. So, I think for the first day, it was a good job."
The Cardinals welcomed 48 newcomers to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon for the first of 15 practices. The focal point of the class was at the quarterback position as the Cardinals signed three new players, including Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz.
"He wants to get on the field and show what he can do," Brohm said. "He's got a good arm and can run. I think our quarterback room has done a good job. Lincoln is a guy we brought in here to take the reins and showcase what he's all about, and to this point, he's done a good job."
Brohm and the staff had to re-tool the offensive line, including new coach Dale Williams, who replaced Richard Owens. Louisville signed five new offensive linemen out of the transfer portal as the unit must replace four of the five starters.
"I like the group so far," Brohm said. "We need to be consistent and get better at the things that hurt us last year. We have to be able to run the football and maximize our ability each and every day. I like the group. I think we have depth but we need to continue to get better with each and every practice."
The defensive secondary showed a lot of speed and ability on the first day of practice. T.J. Banks showed why he was a key signee as he recorded an interception and returned it for a touchdown during the team period.
Louisville returns to the practice field on Wednesday for the second spring practice.
