Cards Ready for ACC Competition at Home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â Â After rallying back in the fourth quarter to defeat Pittsburgh 34-27 in their first conference game, the University of Louisville football team is ready to compete against a newly ranked Atlantic Coast Conference opponent in No. 24 Virginia.Â
Saturday's matchup against Pitt didn't start the way the Cards wanted. Louisville was unable to put a score up in the first quarter, giving Pitt an early 17-0 lead. The Cards battled back in the next quarter to tie the game at 17-17, but gave up 10 more points to the Panthers in the last two minutes of the half.Â
Trailing by seven points heading into the fourth quarter, Louisville continued to make adjustments and made the necessary plays to comeback and secure a huge conference victory on the road.Â
"You like to say that we're going to dominate, win every rep, out-coach and out play them, but they have good coaches and good players too," Brohm said. "So you just have to find a way to do it a little bit more than they do and realize that there will be a little bit of a back and forth. There will be some momentum swings. You can't give in, you have to play to the end, you have to compete and stick together."
Louisville will now place their focus on ACC opponent Virginia, a team who entered the most recent AP poll for the first time this season at No. 24. The Cavaliers are coming off of an upset where they defeated the former No. 8 team in Florida State in overtime by a score of 46-38.
Virginia is led by quarterback Chandler Morris, a graduate student who has had stints at North Texas, TCU and Oklahoma. For back-to-back weeks he has been named ACC Quarterback of the Week and was placed on Davey O'Brien Great 8 List.Â
"We'll have to play really good on defense in order to find a way to stop him and the offense," Brohm said when asked about Morris.Â
The Cards were able to prove that they could comeback from a deficit in last week's game, so they're prepared to do the same on Saturday if Virginia gets out to an early lead.Â
"Our last two years against them, we've had to come from behind in both games to find a way to win," said Brohm.Â
In recent years, the matchups between the Cards and Cavaliers have featured some tight games with plenty of lead changes. When they met last season, Louisville rallied back after a scorless first quarter to defeat Virginia by a score of 24-20 in a tight game. The year prior, the Cards were trailing heading into the fourth quarter, but were able to pull off a 17-3 comeback in the last fifteen minutes.
Louisville (4-0, 1-0 ACC) and Virginia (4-1, 2-0 ACC ) will face eachother on Saturday, Oct. 4 with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 pm ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
