LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team returns to Trager Stadium this weekend when they play host to No. 1 and defending national champion Northwestern Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 15 Iowa Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Trager Stadium. This weekend kicks off a three-game home stand for Louisville. Â

• Louisville enters the weekend with a 3-1 overall record following a 1-1 showing last weekend in Bloomington, Indiana. After suffering their first loss of the season in a 1-0 setback against Drexel, the Cards rebounded with a 5-4 win over the host Hoosiers on Sunday.
• Rylie Wollerton leads the team with five goals and two assist for 12 points this season.
• Louisville has outscored opponents 16-6 in the early season.
• Overall, eight different players scored at least one goal through the first four games of the season In addition to Wollerton's five, Annabel Sep, Gigi Edwards, Lauren Masters and Chloe Cuzzupe have notched two goals apiece while Izzy Bianco, Gracie Potter and Aubreigh Uba have contributed one goal each.
• Senior Izzy Bianco was selected to the 2025 Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team. The midfielder is coming off of a solid junior campaign which culminated in National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-West Region honors.
• Wollerton and Bianco and Masters, are members of the U.S. Junior National Team. The trio recently helped the USA to a silver medal in the Junior Pan American Games in August.
• Bianco, Masters and Wollerton were named to the 2025 NFHCA Collegiate Watch List
• The 2025 Louisville field hockey co-captains are Bianco, senior midfielder Chloe Cuzzupe and
senior back Tatum Kroon
• Louisville was picked to finish eighth in the ACC preseason coaches poll.
• The Cardinals return 17 letterwinners after a rebuilding year that saw a 6-11 overall record and a 1-7 mark in ACC play. Louisville also welcomes six newcomers to this year's squad.
• The 2025 slate features 10 opponents who are ranked among the top 20 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason rankings – six of those teams stand in the top 10. Eight of Louisville's 2025 opponents were NCAA tournament teams last season including national champion Northwestern and runner-up Saint Joseph's along with semifinalist North Carolina.
• Louisville's Trager Stadium will serve as the host site for the 2025 ACC Championship. The Cardinals last hosted the event in 2017 when they advanced to the title game.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 15th season at the helm. During her tenure, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to nine NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the quarterfinals in three of the last six years and reaching the semifinals in 2020.

Last Meeting: Sept. 13, 2024 – The Cardinals fell to the Wildcats 2-0 in their last meeting in 2024 at Trager Stadium. The Wildcats outshot the Cardinals in both shots and shots on goal, with the splits being 10-6 and 7-3 respectively. Rising senior Tatum Kroon notched a pair of defensive saves in the loss.
Scouting the Wildcats: Northwestern (4-0) comes into this matchup as the number one ranked team in the nation, outscoring opponents 10-0 in their four matchups. Their most recent matchups include shutout wins over No. 5 Duke and No. 8 Boston College.

Scouting the Hawkeyes: Iowa (3-1) has notched a ranked win against No. 20 Wake Forest, with their only loss coming to No. 2 North Carolina in the Big Ten/ ACC Challenge. The Hawkeyes have outscored opponents 18-10.
• Head Coach Lisa Cellucci is entering her 26th season on the coaching staff for Iowa, with this being her 12th head coaching season.
• In her time at Iowa, she has led them to four Elite Eights and a Final Four appearance (2021).
• The Hawkeyes tout some highly regarded players on their roster, as five were named to the NFHCA Watchlist preseason, and three were named to the Big Ten Watchlist.
