No. 20/19 Cardinals Host Northern Kentucky in Home Opener

Four of the next five games will be at home for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 20/19 Louisville women's basketball team (0-1) is back on campus and ready to begin the home slate at the KFC Yum! Center on Sunday, November 9. The Cardinals welcome the Northern Kentucky Norse (0-1) to town for a Sunday showdown. The Cardinals and Norse are set to face off at 2 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Sunday's game is the first of 19 home games for the Cardinals this season, the most in a single season since 2017-18. Four of the next five games will be at home for the Cardinals and they have a total of six home games in the month of November.
The Cardinals are 16-2 in home openers under head coach Jeff Walz heading into the matchup with alma mater, Northern Kentucky. They are 13-2 in home openers at the KFC Yum! Center since it opened in the 2010 season. The Cardinals have won nine-straight home openers at the Yum! Center.
Senior forward Laura Ziegler made the most of her Louisville debut against No. 1 UConn on Tuesday. Ziegler led the Cards with 16 points and a career-best 18 rebounds for her 42nd career double-double. The 18 rebounds are the most by an ACC player and the most by any player in the country against a ranked team this season. The 18 rebounds are the most by a player in a game against UConn since the 2002-03 season.

Northern Kentucky comes into Sunday's game with an 0-1 overall record after dropping their season opener, 68-53, on the road to Marshall this past Thursday. The Norse are coming off a 2024-25 campaign where they went 11-21 overall and 8-12 in Horizon play in head coach Jeff Hans first season at the helm after coming over from Thomas More. Northern Kentucky was picked sixth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll and Mya Meredith was one of five players named to the Preseason All-League Team. Head Coach Jeff Walz graduated from Northern Kentucky in 1995 and was a two-year letterwinner on the basketball team. The Norse director of operations is Lindsey Duvall, who played for the Cardinals for two seasons before transferring to Northern Kentucky for her final three collegiate seasons.
Series History - This will be the 25th meeting all-time between the two schools from the Commonwealth. Louisville leads the all-time series 15-11 and this will be the first meeting between the two schools since New Years Day back in 2021. The Cardinals are 8-3 against the Norse in games played in Louisville and have won the last five home games in the series.
Last Meeting (Jan. 1, 2021) - Dana Evans scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half, and No. 2 Louisville rallied for a 74-64 victory over Northern Kentucky on Friday. Olivia Cochran scored 13 points and Elizabeth Dixon had 12 in Louisville's first game since Dec. 9. The Cardinals' schedule has been upended by numerous COVID-19-related cancellations and postponements. Louisville (6-0) also got a double-double from Kianna Smith, who finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
