No. 19 Cards Face Challenge Against Potent Boston College Passing Attack
October 22, 2025 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team returns home this weekend, being ranked nationally for the first time all season. A big part of the success so far this season for UofL, is the defense. The Cards rank 10th nationally in total defense. Louisville looks to keep that momentum going when they host a pass-heavy Boston College offense on Saturday night.
"Any conference game isn't an easy game, so yes we're excited to be back home." Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm stated.
The Cards face a new challenge this week in Boston College. The Eagles will test this Louisville defense by airing the ball out. In their first three games, Boston College had a combined 1,181 passing yards. Including a 390-yard day against Michigan State, in a 42-40, double overtime loss.
The Eagles currently rank seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an average of 272.4 passing yards per game.
Last season, three touchdowns through the air saw Boston College jump out to a 27-10 lead on the Cards. UofL needed 21 unanswered points, to squeak out a 31-27 victory in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Boston College has had two quarterbacks start games for them this season. Dylan Lonergran has started six games for the Eagles. Heading into their game last week against UConn, head coach of the Eagles', Bill O'Brien made a change, giving Grayson James his first start of the season.
Despite the shakeups at quarterback, Boston College has a pair of top-25 receivers in the conference. Eagles' receiver Lewis Bond ranks sixth in the ACC with 72.1 yards receiving per game and his teammate Reed Harris is 24th in the ACC with an average of 48.1 receiving yards per game.
"Lewis Bond and Reed Harris, those guys are really good athletes. When you get to watch those guys, they make some explosives play on tape." Louisville cornerbacks coach Steve Ellis commented.
Louisville will look to put together back-to-back defensive gems, come Saturday against Boston College. A strong defensive effort from the Cards played a key factor in securing the biggest road win in program history, knocking off then-No. 2 Miami, last week.
The Louisville defense recorded four interceptions on Miami quarterback Carson Beck. The fourth, being an acrobatic play by linebacker T.J. Capers to seal the victory.
So far this season, UofL's defense has forced 10 interceptions. Six different Cardinals have registered a pick, with three having multiple. Antonio Watts' three interceptions are tied for eighth nationally. TJ Quinn and Jabari Mack have two interceptions apiece. D'angelo Hutchinson, Jojo Evans Jr. and Capers, each have one interception.
The Cards take the field against Boston College, on Saturday at 7:30 ET. Watch or stream the game on the ACC Network.
