Onofrei, Steinbach fall in three sets in semifinals
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team went 12-6 in singles play and 4-2 in doubles competition over the weekend at ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.Â
At ITA Regionals, the doubles format switches to best-of-three sets with the third set being first to 10 points in the semifinals.
The No. 9-seeded Louisville pair of Andre' Steinbach and Matei Onofrei won four straight matches to advance to the semifinals over the weekend, but fell Monday morning to the No. 12 overall seed Jakub Jupa and Cortland Grove. The Cards duo battled in a third-set tiebreaker, but were outlasted 6-2, 3-6, 13-11 by the Chattanooga pair.Â
Louisville will enjoy a week off before heading to Alabama to compete in the Crimson Tide Fall Challenge beginning on Oct. 24 and running through Oct. 26.Â
