LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team travels down the road for the annual Battle of the Bluegrass against Kentucky on Monday. Kickoff from Lexington is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday, dropping a 2-1 decision to Notre Dame in its opening match of ACC play.
The Cardinals outshot Notre Dame 15-10 in the loss, and held a 9-4 advantage in the second half. It was Louisville's first loss when outshooting the opposition since the final match of the 2022 season.
BATTLE OF THE BLUEGRASS SERIES
Louisville is 15-18-5 all-time in the Battle of the Bluegrass and 6-7-2 against the Wildcats in Lexington. The Cards have lost their last four matches at Kentucky.
The Cardinals defeated Kentucky 4-2 last season at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Gage Guerra recorded the first multi-goal match of his Louisville career and Parker Forbes netted his first career goal.
NEW FACES APLENTY ON PITCH FOR CARDINALS
John Michael Hayden and his staff brought 15 newcomers into the fold for the 2024 season. Through the first four matches, those new faces are playing huge roles.
Ten different Cardinals have started all four matches, six of which are new to the Louisville program – Bilal Camara, Noah De Blasis, JP Jordan, Jack Lewis, Olayinka Ogunleye and Harvey Sellers.
Louisville newcomers have accounted for 2,389 minutes (60.3 percent), a goal (Jack Lewis) and four assists.
FRESHMEN HELPING SOLIDIFY LOUISVILLE BACKLINE
Senior center back Josh Jones has been the anchor in Louisville's defense throughout his four-year career. However this fall, Jones is flanked by a pair of freshmen.
Noah De Blasis has played all 360 minutes this season, while Olayinka Ogunleye has logged all but seven minutes through the first four matches, with the Cardinals allowing just four goals.
