The Cardinals and Blue Raiders will tip off on Friday, March 22 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's basketball team will begin the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as they were selected as a No. 6 seed and will play in the Albany 2 Regional. They will open the tournament against No. 11 seed Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in the first round on Friday, March 22. The Cardinals and Blue Raiders will square off at 1:30 p.m ET and the game will be aired nationally on ESPN2.
This will be the 26th all-time appearance for the Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament and the 15th appearance in the 16 tournaments under head coach Jeff Walz. This is the 13th-straight tournament the Cardinals have played in and they are 44-25 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Since Walz arrived in 2007, the Cardinals are 40-14 in the tournament and have advanced to 12 Sweet 16's, eight Elite Eights, four Final Fours and have been in the championship game twice.
This is just the second time in program history that they will be the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The only other time they have been the No. 6 seed was in 2007, the year prior to coach Walz taking over at Louisville. This will not be the first time the Cardinals have played the 1st and 2nd rounds in Baton Rouge. The Cardinals traveled to Baton Rouge for the 2009 NCAA Tournament, which was the beginning of the program's first ever trip to the Final Four and National Championship game.
Head coach Jeff Walz will have his next radio show on Monday, March 18 at Parlour Pizza in Jeffersontown at 7 p.m. ET. The show will preview the Cardinals postseason selection before the team hits the road later this week.
