No. 22/23 Cardinals Host Florida State for Senior Night
February 28, 2024 | Women's Basketball
Graduate students Sydney Taylor, Nina Rickards and Kiki Jefferson will be honored prior to the game
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 22/23 Louisville women's basketball team (22-7, 11-5 ACC) is at home for the final time in the regular season Thursday night as we enter the final week of the regular season. The Cardinals are set to host Florida State (20-8, 11-5 ACC) Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center as it is Senior Night for the home regular season finale. The Cardinals will honor the three graduate students in Sydney Taylor, Nina Rickards and Kiki Jefferson as they are exhausting their collegiate eligibility this season. The Cardinals and Seminoles will square off at 8 p.m. ET and it will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
Following Thursday's game, the Cardinals will not sign autographs like they normally do after each game. Due to the late start of Thursday's game and turnaround for Sunday's game against Notre Dame, the Cardinals signed their usual autographs on the concourse following their previous game against Virginia.
The trio of graduate students being honored are all in their lone seasons with the Cardinals this year.
Taylor hit the game-winning three to clinch the gold medal in the GLOBL JAM Tournament back in July up in Toronto. This past week against Georgia Tech, she scored a team-best 31 points and tied a career high with seven three pointers. The seven three pointers were the most by a Louisville player in a game since 2020 and she was the first Louisville player to score 30 or more points in a game since 2022.
Rickards has been a great facilitator for the Cardinals this season as she leads the team with 2.6 assists per game. She is second on the squad with 1.2 steals per game and .527 field goal percentage and has led the team in assists 14 times this season. She hit the game winning lay-up with under a minute to play in the road win over Boston College on Feb. 15. Back in November, she was one of two players to be named to the Chancellor Classic All-Tournament Team.
Jefferson leads the team with 13.2 points per game this season, has scored in double figures a team-best 22 times and is one of the best free throw shooters in the country. She ranks 10th nationally and is shooting .900 from the line this season. Jefferson was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 List that recognizes the best small forward in the country and was also named to the Chancellor Classic All-Tournament with Rickards back in November. She eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career in the road win over Miami.
