Cardinals Drop Road Tilt at No. 10 Duke
February 28, 2024 | Men's Basketball
DURHAM, N.C. — A cold shooting first half hampered Louisville men's basketball in Wednesday night's 84-59 loss at No. 10 Duke.
The Cardinals (8-20, 3-14 ACC) shot just 29% and made 1 of 11 3-pointers before the break. They shot 41% for the game and went 3-for-17 behind the arc.
Conversely, Duke (22-6, 13-4) shot 56% overall for the game while racking up 23 assists and knocking down 11 of 22 attempts from long range.
The Cardinals trailed just 17-13 at the 9:01 mark after a pair of free throws by sophomore forward/center Emmanuel Okorafor, but Duke began to catch fire with three straight 3-pointers. That sparked a 16-4 run that extended the Blue Devils' lead to 33-17 with about four minutes to go.
Sophomore guard Tre White made a jumper with 29 seconds left in the half to cut Louisville's halftime deficit to 36-23.
Duke scored seven of the first nine points of the second half to extend its lead and eventually pushed the advantage to 26 with 33 seconds remaining.
White led Louisville with 15 points, while freshman guard Ty-Laur Johnson added 11. Junior forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield tallied his seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Jeremy Roach paced Duke with 19.
The Cardinals return home for their final three games of the regular season, starting against Syracuse at 8 p.m. ET Saturday at the KFC Yum! Center. The game will air on ACC Network.
