Louisville Prepares for Governor’s Cup with Momentum and Resilience
November 27, 2024 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville offensive coordinator Brian Brohm has seen his offensive unit continue to make strides heading into a big-time rival game to end he 2024 season.
The Cardinals are coming off dominate 37-9 win over Pitt on Senior Night, where their balanced offensive performance paved the way for their seventh win of the season.
Tyler Shough, whose impressive season continues, has accumulated 3,067 passing yards while completing 63.3% of his passes, with 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
"I think Tyler [Shough] has played well all season long. He's come here and been more than we expected, he's had a great season, [he's] put up some numbers" – Brian Brohm
The offensive line has faced its share of injuries but has remained a dependable unit, providing stability for Shough and the Cardinals' rushing game.
"I think the [offensive line] has done a good job. We came into the year thinking that we had some depth there, and we've taken some hits. Guys have gotten hurt and banged up, some guys are having to play through some injuries. So, [we're] very thankful that we have had that depth and been able to dive into it," Brohm said.
The offensive line has helped Louisville average 212.4 rushing yards per game this season while allowing just 20 sacks across 11 games, showcasing their consistency and adaptability.
"Those guys have played hard, they've played together. Coach [Richard] Owens does a great job of coaching those guys up and getting [them] to play as one unit. So, we've been really happy with the way they've played, and [we] look forward to seeing them go out there and do it this last game."
Their final test of the regular season for the offense will come against a Kentucky defense that presents unique challenges at the line of scrimmage.
"They're a solid defense, up front obviously [they're] very stout, got some great size and athleticism up front. So, that's going to be a challenge, to be able to block those guys and move those guys off the line of scrimmage."
Louisville's offense will need to rely on its adaptability and execution as it faces a well-coached and physically imposing Kentucky defense in the Governor's Cup.
"I think this team has great character, these guys want to win, they want to be great. I think we have a good makeup of guys that are going to go out there and give it their all in this Governor's Cup game [against] Kentucky for sure."
The Cardinals will close their regular season on Saturday against Kentucky in the Governor's Cup, with kickoff at 12 p.m. in Lexington in a game that can be seen on the SEC Network.
