Louisville wins eight singles matches over the weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL men's tennis picked up eight singles wins across five players at the Louisville Classic over the weekend.
Evan Duggal earned two wins on the court over the weekend. He defeated AJ Mercer from Kentucky in straight sets, with a dominating score of 6-2, 6-2. He also beat Matthew Nice of Bellarmine in a come from behind three-set thriller.
Piet Steveker finished the weekend 2-2 with victories over Ian Cruz of Tennessee and Josh Portnoy of Michigan State. Both of Steveker's wins came in three sets.
Freshman Adrien Ducruet also won two matches, going 2-1 on the weekend. He defeated two opponents from Kentucky, Mercer and Eric Crivei, both in three sets.
Russell Lokko also defeated Mercer like his two teammates; he won the match 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Enrique Peña won his match over Portnoy from Michigan State in three sets.
Louisville is set to play in one final fall tournament: the Notre Dame Invitational. The Cardinals will play in South Bend, Ind., Nov. 1-3.
