Cardinals Race to 4-0 Win over Milwaukee
October 22, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Louisville tied its season high in goals and recorded its first shutout in nine matches.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team put together a strong night on both side of the pitch in a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Louisville (6-4-4) matched its season high in goal and recorded its first clean sheet since blanking Kentucky on Sept. 9.
Bilal Camara got the scoring started early for Louisville, getting the Cardinals on the board in the 18th minute. The sophomore lifted a well-placed shot over the keeper and into the left side of the net for his first tally in a Louisville uniform.
Just over three minutes later, Gage Guerra found the scoring column. Josh Jones launched a long ball from the defensive half that took a large bounce over the charging keeper and Guerra was in the perfect place to slot it home.
The goal was the eighth of the season for the senior forward and his sixth in his last five matches played. It also marked his fifth consecutive match with a goal, making him the first Cardinal to score in five straight since at least 2001.
Louisville wasn't done in the first half though. A corner kick in the 35th minute resulted in Mason Tatafu's first goal of the season. The senior caught the ball on a hop with a diving header and beat the keeper to extend the margin to 3-0.
The three goals in the opening 45 minutes were the most by the Cardinals in any half this season.
Leading by three opening the second half, the Cardinals immediately added on.
Just 39 seconds after half, Guerra played a driving ground pass in from the right side that Parker Forbes got on the end of right in front of net to make it a 4-0 game on his second of the year.
From there, the Louisville defense took care of the rest, keeping Milwaukee (6-4-4) off the scoreboard.
AJ Piela recorded his first career clean sheet, saving all four of the on-target shots by the Panthers.
Louisville finished the night with a 14-6 edge in shots and 5-1 corner advantage.
The Cardinals have two matches remaining in the regular season, both of which are ACC matches. Next up is a road match at NC State on Sunday. Kickoff from Raleigh is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
