Nakanishi Ends Run in the ITA Regional

Kosuke Nakanishi advances to Round of 16 before falling to nine-seed
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – On Saturday, sophomore Kosuke Nakanishi advanced to the Round of 16 in the main singles draw of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by Purdue.
He eventually fell to the overall nine-seed Henry Ruger of Vanderbilt in the late afternoon, ending UofL men's tennis' run in the Regional.
In order to get to the Round of 16, Nakanishi defeated Henrique Ushizima in the Round of 32. In the tight morning battle, the Cardinal won his first set 6-4, before dropping the second 1-6. Nakanishi pulled out all the stops to win the third set 7-6 (7-2) to claim the match and advance.
Three other Cardinals played in the Round of 32 on Saturday. Piet Steveker lost 6-2, 6-2 to the overall No. 1 seed in the Regional, Shunsuke Mitsui of Tennessee. Junior Will Mayew fell to Alex Kotzen, the two-seed, 6-3, 6-4 in his main draw singles match.
Miguel Avendaño put up a good fight against the five-seed Aljandro Moreno, but fell in three sets.
Louisville will be back in action at home October 25-27 for the Louisville Classic at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
